The Short Answer
Quick answer: The Amazon Appstore needs 3 to 10 screenshots in PNG or JPEG. Tablet screenshots come in seven allowed sizes, from 800 x 480 to 2560 x 1600. Fire TV screenshots are 1920 x 1080, landscape only. You also need two icons, at 114 x 114 and 512 x 512, plus extra Fire TV art.
I read Amazon's Appstore Details page, which was last updated January 6, 2026, on October 26, 2026. I checked it against Amazon's February 2025 notice about Android devices, because it changes who these images reach.
Here's every image, the size it needs, and the rules Amazon sets for it.
Where the Amazon Appstore Runs Now
Before you build a set, know where it will show. Amazon's February 2025 notice ended support for the Amazon Appstore on Android devices on August 20, 2025.
From February 20, 2025, developers couldn't submit new apps aimed at Android devices. Updates to live apps were allowed until that August date.
The store didn't close. Amazon says it continues on Fire TV, Fire Tablet and Fire TV built-in products.
So in practice, you're building images for two places. One is Fire tablets. The other is the TV screen.
Amazon's image guide is split the same way, into tablet assets and Fire TV assets.
Every Image at a Glance
Here's the full set from Amazon's Appstore Details page.
| Asset | Size in pixels | Required |
|---|---|---|
| Small icon | 114 x 114 | Yes |
| Large icon | 512 x 512 | Yes |
| Tablet screenshots | Seven allowed sizes | Yes, 3 to 10 |
| Promotional image | 1024 x 500 | No |
| Video | 1080 wide x 720 high | No, up to 5 |
| Fire TV app icon | 1280 x 720 | Yes |
| Fire TV screenshots | 1920 x 1080 | Yes, 3 to 10 |
| Fire TV background image | 1920 x 1080 | Yes |
Amazon adds one upload rule for every file. The image extension must match the real image type. A JPEG saved with a .png extension will fail to upload.
Two Icons: 114 and 512
Amazon asks for two icons. The small one is 114 x 114 pixels, and the large one is 512 x 512. Both are PNG files, and both can be transparent.
Both icons represent your app throughout the Appstore and on Amazon devices. They'll be scaled down too, so they need to hold up small.
The small icon can be a simplified version of the large one. Or you can use the same design for both.
Don't just scale up a small PNG to make the large one. Amazon warns that it gives a blurry image.
Android apps have a third icon too. That's the standard launcher icon named in your app's manifest.
Icon Design Rules
Amazon lists the same do and don't rules for tablet icons and the Fire TV icon.
| Do | Don't |
|---|---|
| Use original art from your app | Add marketing slogans |
| Use contrast | Add studio badging |
| Leave enough white space | Put logos on a busy background |
| Use fewer characters | Add borders or rounded corners |
The last rule surprises some people. Amazon wants key art to run to the edge of the image.
Only logos or key art belong in an icon. If your logo overlaps a main character, it may become hard to read once the icon shrinks.
Tablet Screenshots: 3 to 10
Every listing needs at least 3 screenshots, and up to 10. They can be PNG or JPEG, in landscape or portrait.
Amazon accepts seven sizes, depending on the devices you target.
| Width x height in pixels |
|---|
| 800 x 480 |
| 1024 x 600 |
| 1280 x 720 |
| 1280 x 800 |
| 1920 x 1080 |
| 1920 x 1200 |
| 2560 x 1600 |
These are exact sizes, not minimums. A capture at some other size needs cropping or resizing to match one of them.
For capture steps, Amazon points to its own guide, Taking Screenshots on Fire Devices.
Pick the Size From Your Device
Amazon says the allowed size depends on the devices you target. So start with the Fire tablet your app is built for.
Check its screen against the list above. If your capture is a different size, crop or resize it to a listed size before you upload.
Amazon allows portrait mode too. Its page lists each size in landscape order and doesn't spell out the portrait form. So test one portrait upload before you capture a full set.
Keep one size across the whole set if you can. Mixed shapes in one listing look untidy when people swipe through them.
Tablet shapes differ from phone shapes, and that catches people out. Our guide to Android device frame sizes explains why.
What Amazon Wants in Screenshots
Amazon gives five tips for strong screenshots.
- 1Use engaging images with a pleasing composition.
- 2Show different scenes of the app, not near copies.
- 3Include major characters or notable content.
- 4Follow a logical order that mimics a typical user's path.
- 5Focus on core features, with one or two smaller ones.
The fourth tip is the most specific. Amazon suggests you begin at the broadest point, such as the main menu.
Then cover the main features in full. After that, explore the side features, menus and settings.
That's a different order from many phone listings, which lead with their single best feature. Here, Amazon asks for a guided tour.
What to Leave Out
Amazon names three things to avoid in tablet screenshots.
- 1Photos of someone using the app. Show only the app itself.
- 2The wrong device type. Screenshots should reflect the app on the tablet, not on other devices.
- 3Personal information. Fill names, logins and social feeds with dummy data.
The second rule matters if you reuse phone art. A tall phone shot in a phone frame shows a different device from a Fire tablet.
The third rule is easy to break by accident. A real account name in the corner of a capture is enough.
Our guide to capturing clean app screenshots covers how to set up test data before you shoot.
The Promotional Image: 1024 x 500
The promotional image is optional. Amazon uses it to promote your app in select placements.
It's 1024 x 500 pixels, PNG or JPEG, in landscape. That's the same size as Google Play's feature graphic, so the shape may already be familiar.
It shouldn't be a screenshot. Amazon wants an attractive picture of your app that includes its name.
It must stay readable when scaled down to 300 x 146 pixels. All text must sit at least 50 pixels from every edge.
Leave out anything the store already shows elsewhere. That means price, screenshots, descriptive text, ratings and buttons.
Videos: Up to Five
You can add up to 5 videos. Only the first one shows on the Appstore website, but all of them show on devices.
| Detail | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Size | 720 high x 1080 wide, 4:3 or 16:9 |
| Formats | MPEG-2, WMV, QuickTime, FLV, AVI, H.264 MPEG-4 |
| Bitrate | 1200 kbps or higher |
| Length | 60 minutes or less |
| File size | Up to 262.14 MB each |
Amazon asks you to capture video straight from the app where you can. You may add text, audio and images, but the video must still demo the real app.
One rule is unique. If a video shows iOS or another unsupported system, it must show Fire OS too. Our guide to app preview video specs compares other stores.
Fire TV App Icon: 1280 x 720
The Fire TV icon is very different from the tablet icons. It's a wide 1280 x 720 PNG, with no transparency.
It appears in a row of other app icons in the Fire TV interface.
Badges can cover parts of it. Download icons and progress bars may sit on top of your art.
So Amazon defines a safe area of 882 x 448 pixels. Your main subject and title art belong inside it. Art outside that area may be covered.
The same design rules apply as for tablet icons. Run key art to the edge, and skip borders, rounded corners and slogans.
Fire TV Screenshots: 1920 x 1080
Fire TV screenshots are 1920 x 1080 pixels, in landscape. They can be JPG or 24 bit PNG, with no transparency.
You need 3 to 10 of them, the same count as tablets.
Here's some good news. Amazon says screenshots aren't covered by badges on Fire TV. So you don't need to plan for a safe area.
The tips match the tablet ones, with one change. Screenshots should reflect the app on the TV, not on other devices.
That rules out reusing tablet shots for a TV listing. Capture the real TV interface, at full size. Our guide to Android TV and other large screen listings covers the same idea for Google Play.
The Fire TV Background Image
The background image is required for Fire TV. It's 1920 x 1080 pixels, JPG or 24 bit PNG, with no transparency.
It appears in the upper right of a mini detail page when people scroll across your app. When they click your icon, it can fill the whole background.
Its safe area is 1214 x 830 pixels. Put the main subject there, because UI elements may cover or clip the rest.
Amazon asks for engaging art that's relevant to the app. Don't show a person using the app, the controller, the TV or the room.
Place the main subject on the right side when you can, because the UI may cover the left. Keep logos and titles out of it, and use different art from your app icon where possible.
If You Skip Fire TV Art
Amazon doesn't leave empty spaces on Fire TV. If you don't provide the required Fire TV assets, it applies a default treatment to fit your images into the spaces.
Its example is an image with the wrong proportions. Fire TV places it on top of a background image that fills the space.
That works, but you lose control of how your listing looks. Making the real assets at the right sizes is the safer route.
You may also see the Feature Rotator on Fire TV. It's the large slot at the top of the Home, Movies, TV, Apps and Games tabs.
Amazon says those slots are ads, and they're for entertainment advertisers only. They aren't part of a normal listing.
Where PlayMockUp Fits
Amazon's rules lean toward plain captures. Screenshots should show only the app, on the right device. So take them straight from a Fire tablet or a Fire TV, at one of the listed sizes.
Our free mockup generator is built for Google Play and the App Store. It places screenshots in phone, tablet and laptop frames, with a gradient background and text, and exports at those stores' sizes.
If your app also lives on those stores, build that set there. Then keep a separate, unframed set for Amazon.
The two sets serve different rules. Keeping them apart avoids a wrong device type in your Amazon listing.
