The Short Answer
Quick answer: For an Android app (APK) on Huawei AppGallery, upload one square icon of 216 x 216 or 512 x 512 pixels and 3 to 8 screenshots. Huawei lists 800 x 450 or 450 x 800 for screenshots, with sides from 320 to 3840 pixels and files up to 2 MB. Leave out other brands' phones.
I read Huawei's visual asset specification, its review guidelines for app information and its release guide on 31 October 2026.
This post covers Android apps first. Then it covers the rules that reject screenshots, the text limits, and the different sizes for HarmonyOS apps.
Where These Rules Come From
Huawei keeps its picture rules on one page, called Specifications for App Visual Assets. The version I read is V20, last updated on 1 April 2026.
That page splits the rules by app type. HarmonyOS apps come first, then atomic services, then APKs, which are standard Android app packages. Each type has its own table for phones, watches and other devices.
The review rules sit on a second page, section 1 of the AppGallery review guidelines, which covers app information. I read version V2, updated on 7 January 2026.
Text limits come from a third page, Huawei's guide to releasing an app bundle, at version V41 from 1 June 2026.
The version numbers show that Huawei updates these pages over time. Open the visual asset specification before a big upload. If a number here and Huawei's page disagree, trust Huawei's page.
Every APK Asset at a Glance
Here's the full list for a phone app shipped as an APK, in the order of Huawei's table.
- 1Icon, mandatory. One square image, 216 x 216 or 512 x 512, as a PNG up to 2 MB or a WebP up to 100 KB.
- 2Screenshots, mandatory. Three to eight images, 800 x 450 or 450 x 800, as PNG, JPG or JPEG up to 2 MB, or WebP up to 100 KB.
- 3Introduction videos, optional. One to three, landscape at 1280 x 720 or portrait at 720 x 1280.
- 4Promotional video, optional. One video at 4:3, either 1600 x 1200 or 1200 x 900.
WebP files can't be animated, for icons or for screenshots. Both kinds of video take MOV or MP4 files up to 500 MB, from 15 seconds to 2 minutes long.
That's the whole picture set. Unlike some stores, AppGallery's APK table asks for no wide banner image for phone apps.
The Icon, 216 or 512 Pixels Square
Huawei accepts two icon sizes for an APK, 216 x 216 or 512 x 512 pixels. The remark in the table is short. Upload a square icon.
A PNG can be up to 2 MB. A WebP must stay under 100 KB, and it can't be animated.
If you already have a 512 x 512 PNG icon for another store, it meets this size, as long as the file stays under 2 MB. Our icon size guide lists the sizes Google Play and the App Store ask for.
The design matters as much as the size. Review rule 1.6 says your icon can't look like a system icon that users might mistake for a system app. Rule 1.7 bans misleading symbols, such as a notification badge when there's nothing new.
Three to Eight Screenshots
An APK listing needs at least three screenshots and takes up to eight.
Review rule 1.9 adds a detail. The three must be different images, so you can't upload one shot three times to fill the slots.
The table doesn't say how many screenshots show on the details page at once. So put your strongest screen first, where it's sure to be seen.
HarmonyOS apps work differently. They take three to five screenshots instead, as a later section shows.
800 x 450, and the 320 to 3840 Range
Huawei's table lists 800 x 450 for landscape or 450 x 800 for portrait. Under that, it sets a minimum side length of 320 pixels and a maximum of 3840.
My reading is that 800 x 450 is a sample size, while the side limits set the hard range. The ratio column for APK screenshots shows only a slash, so the table doesn't state a required ratio.
800 x 450 is a 16:9 shape, though. The introduction videos use 16:9 and 9:16 too. So 16:9 landscape or 9:16 portrait screenshots are the safe choice.
A 1080 x 1920 portrait screenshot is 9:16, and both of its sides fall between 320 and 3840 pixels. A 2160 x 3840 shot fits as well, right at the upper limit.
The 2 MB File Limit
Each APK screenshot can be up to 2 MB as a PNG, JPG or JPEG. WebP has a much lower cap, at 100 KB.
A large PNG of a busy screen, with photos or gradients, can pass 2 MB. If yours does, save it as a JPG at high quality. AppGallery accepts JPG for screenshots, and a JPG of a photo heavy screen is often far smaller than the PNG.
Keep PNG for screens with flat colors and sharp text, where it stays small anyway.
Check each file's size before you upload. It's quicker than finding out from a failed upload.
Orientation, and Videos Must Match
You pick landscape or portrait for your screenshots. Rule 1.9 says screenshots and introduction videos must be in the correct orientation and displayed completely.
The visual asset table adds a second link between them. Introduction videos must use the same orientation as your screenshots.
So a portrait screenshot set needs portrait videos, at 720 x 1280. A landscape set needs landscape videos, at 1280 x 720.
Decide the orientation once, for the whole listing, before you capture anything. That saves you from capturing a set twice.
Introduction and Promotional Videos
Both videos are optional, and they show in different places.
Introduction videos appear on the Introduction tab of the app details page. You can add one to three, landscape at 1280 x 720 (16:9) or portrait at 720 x 1280 (9:16).
The promotional video shows at the top of the app details page. Only one is allowed. It's 4:3, at 1600 x 1200 or 1200 x 900.
Both take MOV or MP4, up to 500 MB, from 15 seconds to 2 minutes long.
Note that 4:3 shape. If your other videos are 16:9 or 9:16, the promotional video needs its own edit.
No Other Brands' Phones or Store Badges
This rule matters most if you reuse images made for another store.
Review rule 1.16 says your app information must not contain names, icons, or imagery of any other device brands or mobile app platforms. It also asks you to keep the focus on the app itself and its experience.
Read that word by word. An iPhone or Pixel frame around your screenshot shows another device brand. A Google Play or App Store badge shows another app platform. Both clash with the rule as written.
Captions count too. A line like "Get it on Google Play" names another platform, so it doesn't belong in an AppGallery image.
For AppGallery, use plain screenshots of your app. Your own background and captions are fine. Just keep every other brand out of the frame.
Screenshot Quality Rules
Rule 1.9 has more conditions for screenshots and introduction videos. They must show completely, so don't crop off part of the screen. They shouldn't be blurry or deformed, so don't stretch a shot to fit a size. And they shouldn't contain irrelevant content.
Rule 1.14 covers your listing text and images as well. It bans misleading content, hot search keywords and buzz words. It also bans words that imply rank, such as official, authoritative, favored or featured.
That last list catches captions like "The official app" or "Featured pick". Remove them before you submit.
Rule 1.20 closes the loop. Your app's actual icon, name and content must match what you submit, in every language you select.
Text Limits on the Listing
Huawei sets these limits for the text on your app's page.
- 1App name, up to 30 characters, or 15 when Chinese is the default language (rule 1.1).
- 2Brief introduction, up to 80 characters. Huawei advises 25 or fewer for a better display.
- 3Full introduction, up to 8000 characters.
- 4New features, up to 500 characters for each version.
Rule 1.4 bans placeholders, emoticons and special characters in the name, including asterisks, ampersands, hyphens and brackets. If your name on another store uses one, you'll need a plain version here.
One more rule applies in China. If you release in the Chinese mainland with Simplified Chinese among your languages, the Simplified Chinese name must match the name in your APK. The release guide explains the full form.
Localized Listings and Assets
AppGallery Connect sets your languages in its Localization area. The default language comes from when you created the app, and a Manage languages link adds more.
For each language, you fill in the name and introduction, and you can upload separate visual assets. If you don't upload assets for a language, the release guide says the default language's assets are used.
Rule 1.13 expects your app to be localized, with app information and content translated into each language you select. So if your screenshots carry captions, translate them for each language, or keep captions out.
For a plan that covers several stores at once, see our guide to localizing app store listings.
HarmonyOS and Watch Apps Use Other Sizes
Native HarmonyOS apps follow their own table on the same page. For a phone or tablet app, the icon is 216 x 216 only, as a PNG up to 500 KB or a WebP up to 100 KB.
HarmonyOS screenshots come as three to five landscape or three to five portrait images. Landscape shots are 16:9 at 1280 x 720, with PNG, JPG or JPEG up to 5 MB, or WebP up to 200 KB. Portrait shots are 9:16 at 720 x 1280, up to 2 MB, or WebP up to 100 KB.
Watch apps shipped as an APK are much smaller. The icon is 80 x 80, and its background must be transparent. Watch screenshots number three to five, at 180 x 240, each up to 500 KB.
So check which kind of app you're shipping before you export. A set built for a phone APK won't fit a watch listing.
Before You Submit
Run through this list for an APK phone listing.
- 1The icon is square, 216 or 512 pixels, and a PNG under 2 MB.
- 2You have three to eight different screenshots.
- 3Each screenshot has sides between 320 and 3840 pixels and weighs under 2 MB.
- 4Every screenshot and introduction video shares one orientation.
- 5No image or caption shows another brand's phone, logo or store badge.
- 6No caption uses words like official or featured.
- 7The name has no hyphens, ampersands, asterisks or brackets, and fits in 30 characters.
- 8If your app needs sign in, you have a working test account for the review team, as rule 1.21 asks.
If every line checks out, your picture set meets the rules I found in Huawei's pages.
Where PlayMockUp Fits
We make PlayMockUp, so weigh this part with that in mind. I checked our own editor against rule 1.16 before writing this, and it's a poor fit for AppGallery phone screenshots.
PlayMockUp always places your screen inside a device frame. Every phone frame we offer shows a named brand's phone, from iPhone and Pixel to Samsung and Xiaomi models. Under rule 1.16, those frames are the kind of imagery Huawei asks you to leave out.
For AppGallery, upload clean screenshots taken straight from your app instead.
Our free mockup generator is built for listings where you want your screen inside a phone. You can see every device we offer on our device frame list. For Google Play's own sizes and counts, read our Play Store screenshot guide.
Frequently asked questions
What size should AppGallery screenshots be?
For an APK, Huawei lists 800 x 450 for landscape or 450 x 800 for portrait. Each side must stay between 320 and 3840 pixels, and each file under 2 MB as a PNG, JPG or JPEG.
How many screenshots does Huawei AppGallery need?
An APK listing needs at least three different screenshots and takes up to eight. Native HarmonyOS phone apps take three to five landscape or three to five portrait screenshots instead.
What is the AppGallery icon size?
An APK icon is square, at 216 x 216 or 512 x 512 pixels, as a PNG up to 2 MB or a WebP up to 100 KB. HarmonyOS phone apps use 216 x 216 only, as a PNG up to 500 KB.
Can AppGallery screenshots show an iPhone or a Google Play badge?
Review rule 1.16 bans names, icons and imagery of other device brands or mobile app platforms in your app information. An iPhone frame or a Google Play badge clashes with that rule, so leave both out.
How long can an AppGallery app name be?
Up to 30 characters, or 15 when Chinese is the default language. Rule 1.4 also bans hyphens, ampersands, asterisks and brackets. To compare other stores, see our [app name character limit guide](/blog/app-name-character-limit-app-store-google-play-2026).
